The Gandinis

17 July – NightClubs – Watch This Space, NT

A juggling show at Watch This Space. Well, I’ve got to say, my expectations were low. Very low. So low that only a last minute call to work, rather than any sense of justice, prevented me reviewing Thursday’s rained-off dress rehearsal. A juggling show at Watch This Space must be worse than a damp, cold morning on Brighton beach. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This show was entrancing.

Ten performers throwing, rolling and dropping, balls and clubs, large and small, glowing and illuminated, in routines of astounding coordination. The constant gentle pace lulled the square into a neverland, a Busby Berkeley pool full of synchronised technical brilliance and brilliant colours in a floaty world trimmed with lsd.

The Gandinis

The Gandinis

Children watching teletubbies, we were hushed before beauty, gasping at slow amazing things that float and glow. Subtle electronic music gave way to syncopated rhythms of bouncing balls. For forty minutes the Gandinis made a calmer, better place of the South Bank.

Magical, simply magical.

Once again, your reviews are spot on. The Gandinis are an astonishingly technical and creative company.
